Italian Citizen Deported After Assaulting Police Officer in Bali

An Italian citizen, Giovanni I. (GI), aged 24, was deported from Indonesia on April 28, 2026, following an assault on a police officer.

The incident occurred on April 22, 2026, at around 1:00 PM local time, when GI, riding a motorcycle with his girlfriend, was stopped by officers for not wearing a helmet on Gunung Agung Street, North Denpasar.

Incident Details

GI refused to comply with the police officer’s request and physically pushed the officer, causing the officer to fall.

The altercation was captured by a bystander and quickly went viral on social media platforms, including TikTok and Instagram, gaining widespread attention.

Police Response and Arrest

In response to the viral video, the Denpasar Police mobilized a joint team from the Criminal Investigation Unit (Sat Reskrim) and the Intelligence and Security Unit (Sat Intelkam) to locate and arrest GI.

He was apprehended on April 23, 2026, at around 11:00 AM local time near the intersection of Gunung Agung and Mahendradatta Streets.

Deportation and Legal Action

GI was handed over to the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office for further processing.

He was found guilty of violating Article 75, Paragraph 1 of Indonesia’s Immigration Law (Law No. 6 of 2011), which covers actions that endanger public safety and order.

As a result, GI was deported from Indonesia and placed on the immigration blacklist, barring him from reentering the country.

Immigration Officials’ Statement

Bugie Kurniawan, Head of Ngurah Rai Immigration, emphasized that there is no tolerance for illegal actions by foreign nationals in Indonesia.

Felucia Sengky Ratna, Head of Bali’s Immigration Office, reiterated that foreign nationals who break the law will face strict penalties, including deportation and permanent entry bans, with no exceptions.
