Immigration offices will be closed on 25 August for a public holiday. Please plan your visa arrangements accordingly.

Staying at a Different Address Than Your Indonesia Visa Application

Yes, you can generally stay at a different hotel, villa, or accommodation from the address you entered in your Indonesia tourist visa, VOA, or eVOA application. You do not normally need to apply for a new visa simply because your accommodation plans have changed. However, your actual residential address must be kept accurate, and any address changes that require immigration reporting must be handled properly.

For tourists who frequently move between hotels or destinations in Bali, changing accommodation is different from officially changing your residential address. If you are extending your visa or holding a long-term stay permit such as a KITAS or KITAP, additional reporting requirements may apply.

Changing Hotels or Villas After Your Visa Is Approved

You can generally change your accommodation after receiving your Indonesia tourist visa, including a C1 Tourist Visa or eVOA.

For example, you may have entered a hotel address in Seminyak when applying for your visa but later decide to stay in Canggu, Ubud, or Uluwatu. A change in your travel itinerary does not automatically invalidate your visa.

You can also travel to other destinations in Indonesia, such as Lombok, Jakarta, or Yogyakarta, as long as your activities remain consistent with your visa purpose and your stay permit remains valid.

However, you should always provide genuine accommodation information when completing a visa application. Do not intentionally enter a false address or use accommodation details that you know are incorrect.

Do You Need to Report Every Hotel Change to Immigration?

A normal change of hotel during a tourist trip is different from changing your official residential address. You do not generally need to apply for a formal immigration address mutation (mutasi alamat) every time you check into a different hotel.

However, Article 71 of Indonesia’s Immigration Law (Law No. 6 of 2011) requires foreign nationals to report changes of address to the local immigration office.

For tourists, it is important to distinguish between temporary accommodation changes and a change to the address where you actually reside.

Hotels, villas, guesthouses, and other accommodation providers also have responsibilities to report foreign guests to immigration through the Aplikasi Pelaporan Orang Asing (APOA).

When checking into new accommodation, provide your correct passport details so the accommodation provider can complete its reporting obligations.

If you move into a new primary residence, particularly for a longer stay, check whether you need to update your registered address with immigration.

What If You Stay with Friends or Family Instead of a Hotel?

You can generally stay with friends or family during your tourist visit, even if you originally entered a hotel address in your visa application.

However, your host may be required to provide information about your stay to immigration. This reporting obligation is not limited to commercial hotels.

If you plan to stay at a private residence for an extended period, make sure you have the correct address and that your host understands any applicable reporting requirements.

You should also be able to provide your actual accommodation address if immigration officers request it.

Updating Your Address When Extending Your Tourist Visa

Your accommodation address becomes particularly important when applying for a visa or stay permit extension.

For VOA and eVOA extensions, the immigration office responsible for your application may depend on the accommodation address and postal code entered during the extension process.

Before submitting, check how your address affects your assigned immigration office in Bali so you can confirm the appropriate office instead of choosing one only because it is nearby.

Use accurate accommodation details and the correct postal code when applying for an extension. Check the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office’s foreign-national services page for current service requirements and address-update procedures.

This is important because your photo and interview appointment may be assigned to the immigration office responsible for that area.

To prepare for that visit, read what to expect at the biometric visa-extension appointment and confirm the documents and attendance instructions for your application.

For example, if you originally stayed in Ubud but are now staying in Canggu, you should use your relevant current accommodation details when completing the extension application rather than automatically reusing your original visa application address.

If you have already submitted your extension application and then move to another area, contact your visa agent or immigration office before your scheduled appointment.

If your initial stay is 30 days, follow our 30-day visa-extension guide to understand the application stages and plan your accommodation around the remaining steps.

Visa BaliEasy can help review your extension application, confirm the relevant immigration office, and guide you through the required photo and biometric appointment.

If you become sick or cannot attend your scheduled immigration appointment, let us know as soon as possible. Our team can follow up with the relevant immigration authorities to check whether your appointment can be rescheduled. Approval of a new appointment date remains subject to immigration.

Different Address Rules for KITAS and KITAP Holders

If you hold a KITAS (Limited Stay Permit) or KITAP (Permanent Stay Permit), changing your primary residential address generally requires a formal address update with immigration.

This process is commonly called mutasi alamat.

Depending on your circumstances, the process may involve notifying your sponsor or responsible party, providing proof of your new address, and submitting an application to the relevant immigration office.

If you move to an area covered by another immigration office, additional transfer procedures may apply.

These requirements are especially relevant for holders of:

  • Investor KITAS
  • Remote Worker KITAS (E33G)
  • Family or Spouse KITAS
  • Working KITAS
  • Retirement KITAS
  • KITAP

A short holiday or temporary hotel stay is not necessarily the same as changing your registered residential address.

If you are relocating permanently, arrange the required address update instead of waiting until your next KITAS or KITAP extension.

What Happens If Your Address Information Is Incorrect?

Providing incorrect address information or failing to report a change when legally required can cause immigration problems.

Potential issues include difficulties during a visa extension, requests for additional documents, complications with immigration verification, or administrative consequences for failing to meet reporting requirements.

To avoid problems, use accurate information when applying for a visa, keep your accommodation details available, and make sure your immigration records are updated when necessary.
