When travelling to Bali as a family, remember that every traveller, including babies, must have their own passport and their own visa or entry permit. Indonesia does not allow children to enter under a parent’s visa. Each family member must apply individually for the appropriate visa.

2. Entry Requirements for Families
General Requirements for Adults and Children
- Passport validity: Minimum 6 months from date of arrival, with at least 2 blank pages per traveller (including babies).
- Return/onward ticket: Immigration may ask for proof you’ll leave Indonesia (flight home or to another country) for each family member.
- Accommodation details: Have your hotel/villa address and booking confirmation ready.
- Funds: Be prepared to show proof of sufficient funds (bank card/statement), especially for longer stays.
- Children & teens: Each child needs their own passport and their own visa or visa-free entry. If only one parent is travelling, it’s wise to carry a consent letter from the other parent plus a birth certificate/family book to avoid airline or border issues.

3. Updated Visa Rules for Tourists in Bali
Indonesia has recently updated several visa procedures, and families should always check the latest official information before travelling. Here are the key changes made in 2024-2025:
- Hybrid Visa Extensions:
Extending a VoA/e-VOA or other visit visas now requires a two-step process:- Online registration,
- In-person biometrics (photo & fingerprints) at an Immigration Office. This applies to all ages, including children.
Make sure to extend your visa before it expires, as Indonesia strictly enforces penalties for overstaying.
- e-VOA Encouraged (Group Applications Available):
Families can submit e-VOA for up to 5 people online, making arrival faster and avoiding VoA payment queues. - Mandatory All Indonesia Arrival Card:
A new digital declaration (customs + health) must be completed within 72 hours before arrival for every traveller. Each person receives a QR code for inspection. - Bali Tourist Levy Strictly Enforced:
IDR 150,000 per entry applies to all foreign visitors, including infants. Families should pay via the official Love Bali platform and keep the QR code ready.
4. Family Travel Tips
Best Areas to Stay for Families
- Sanur: Calm sea, paved beachfront path for strollers, lots of mid-range hotels and villas, and a quieter, local feel. Great for younger kids and early nights.
- Nusa Dua & Tanjung Benoa: Gated resort area with clean beaches, lifeguards, kids’ clubs, and big international hotels. Ideal if you want a “stay in the resort, relax by the pool” style holiday.
- Jimbaran: Wide, swimmable bay, sunset seafood dinners on the sand, and a slower pace than Kuta/Legian. Good if you want beach time near the airport without heavy nightlife.
- Ubud (central Bali): Rice fields, temples, culture and nature rather than beach. Many family villas with pools and easy access to day trips (waterfalls, rafting, rice terraces).
Areas You May Want to Avoid
- Kuta & Legian (central areas): Busy, noisy, heavy nightlife, more street hassle.
- Party zones of Seminyak & Canggu: Beach clubs, loud music, dense traffic; not ideal for young kids, though fine for short visits.
