Flight Documents for an Indonesia Visa: Inbound, Outbound & Standby Bookings

White flight ticket with inbound and outbound arrows and an airplane, visa document and Bali map on blue for Indonesia visa flight documents.

If you are asked to provide Indonesia visa flight documents for your application, submit your travel itinerary showing your arrival in Indonesia and your planned departure. Your documents should clearly identify the traveler, flight dates, routes, and booking details.

For an Indonesia Visa on Arrival (VOA/eVOA), proof of a return or onward ticket is an official entry requirement. For other visa categories, the documents requested during the application process may differ.

A flight reservation, ticket confirmation, and airline staff standby booking are not necessarily equivalent. If your flight is not yet confirmed, contact your visa agent before uploading the document or purchasing a non-refundable ticket.

Visa BaliEasy can review your available flight documents and advise whether additional information is needed for your specific visa application.

Inbound vs. Outbound Flight Documents

Inbound and outbound flight documents serve different purposes.

Document What it shows Example
Inbound flight Your planned arrival in Indonesia Singapore → Denpasar, Bali
Outbound flight Your planned departure from Indonesia Denpasar → Melbourne
Return ticket Your journey back to your departure country or another relevant origin Sydney → Bali → Sydney
Onward ticket Travel from Indonesia to another country Bali → Kuala Lumpur

You do not necessarily need to return to the same country from which you arrived.

For example, if you fly from Australia to Bali and then continue to Singapore, your ticket from Bali to Singapore may serve as proof of onward travel.

However, the itinerary must meet the applicable requirements for your visa and entry into Indonesia.

Inbound Flight Booking

An inbound flight document shows how and when you plan to enter Indonesia.

It is useful for verifying your intended arrival date, the airport where you will enter, and whether your travel plans match the information submitted in your visa application.

If you are traveling through another country before arriving in Indonesia, provide the relevant itinerary showing the full connection.

For example:

  • Melbourne → Singapore
  • Singapore → Denpasar

If both flights appear on one itinerary, make sure the Indonesia arrival details are clearly visible.

Outbound Flight Booking

An outbound flight document shows your intention to leave Indonesia.

For eligible VOA and eVOA travelers, Indonesian Immigration requires a return or onward ticket.

This requirement also applies when immigration officers assess entry eligibility.

Your onward travel does not necessarily have to return you to your home country, but you must meet the entry requirements of the destination you plan to visit.

An outbound ticket does not extend your permitted stay. Your authorized stay is determined by your immigration permission, not by the departure date printed on your ticket. Compare Bali visa stay limits before choosing an outbound date so your itinerary fits the permission you intend to use.

Information Your Flight Documents Should Show

Before uploading a flight confirmation, check that the relevant details are visible.

Information What to check
Passenger name Matches the traveler’s passport or can be explained with appropriate supporting evidence
Airline Airline operating or marketing the flight
Flight number Identifies the relevant flight, where available
Travel date Shows when the traveler intends to arrive or leave
Departure airport Includes the airport and country of departure
Arrival airport Clearly identifies the Indonesian arrival airport or outbound destination
Booking reference PNR or reservation reference, where issued
Ticket number or confirmation status Helps establish whether the booking is ticketed or confirmed

A booking reference alone does not establish that a passenger has a confirmed seat or that a ticket has been issued.

Some airlines issue a reservation reference before payment or ticketing has been completed.

If your itinerary shows a pending, waitlisted, or standby status, inform your visa agent rather than assuming the document is acceptable.

Booking Confirmation vs. Confirmed Flight Ticket

Travelers sometimes receive several types of documents after arranging a flight.

These documents may look similar but represent different booking stages.

Booking Confirmation

A booking confirmation records an itinerary or reservation created in the airline or travel provider’s system.

Depending on the provider, it may show a booking reference even if payment or ticket issuance is incomplete.

Check the booking status before submitting it as proof of confirmed travel.

Electronic Ticket

An electronic ticket, or e-ticket, generally provides stronger evidence that a flight has been ticketed.

It commonly includes passenger details, flight information, and an e-ticket number.

However, having a ticket number does not remove the need to satisfy immigration requirements or the airline’s conditions of carriage.

Unpaid or Temporary Reservations

A temporary reservation may show a proposed itinerary without confirming that the flight has been paid for or ticketed.

Do not assume an unpaid reservation will be accepted simply because it has a PNR.

If the visa application or immigration officer requires a confirmed return or onward ticket, an unconfirmed reservation may not satisfy that requirement.

Refundable Flight Tickets for Indonesia Visa Applications

A genuinely booked and confirmed refundable flight can be suitable evidence of travel, subject to the applicable immigration requirements.

Refundable does not mean unconfirmed.

A refundable ticket may still be properly issued and confirmed. Its refund conditions determine whether you can recover some or all of the fare if your plans change.

By contrast, an unpaid reservation may be cancelled automatically if ticketing is not completed.

If your travel dates are uncertain, consider the airline’s change and refund conditions before purchasing a ticket.

Avoid purchasing an expensive non-refundable itinerary solely to satisfy an anticipated document request without first checking the requirements for your visa category.

Do not submit fabricated tickets, altered itineraries, or booking confirmations that misrepresent your actual reservation.

Airline Staff Travel and Standby Bookings

Airline employees and eligible family members sometimes travel using staff travel benefits, including non-revenue or standby tickets.

These bookings can differ from ordinary confirmed passenger tickets.

A staff travel document may show:

  • An intended flight and travel date.
  • A staff or non-revenue booking reference.
  • A standby or waitlist status.
  • An itinerary that depends on seat availability.
  • A ticket or travel authorization issued under an airline employee benefit program.

The central issue is whether the document establishes the confirmed travel arrangements required for the relevant application or entry assessment.

Standby Travel Is Not Always Confirmed Travel

A standby booking may permit a traveler to board only when a seat becomes available.

Consequently, the passenger may not have a guaranteed place on the flight shown in the itinerary.

Indonesian Immigration’s published VOA guidance requires a return or onward ticket, while the Indonesian Embassy in Doha describes the requirement as a confirmed return or onward ticket.

These sources do not establish that every non-revenue or standby itinerary will be accepted.

If you are traveling using staff benefits, request a case-specific review rather than assuming your staff reservation will be treated like a confirmed commercial ticket.

Documents to Provide for a Staff Travel Review

If your outbound journey uses airline staff travel, explain the arrangement and provide any available evidence, such as:

  1. The staff travel itinerary.
  2. The airline’s booking or travel reference.
  3. The travel status shown by the reservation.
  4. Any issued ticket or other confirmation available through the airline.
  5. Your intended departure date and destination.

Additional documentation may be requested depending on your visa type and the reviewing authority.

Visa BaliEasy can review the documents you have and identify what still needs clarification.

However, a visa agent cannot guarantee that Indonesian Immigration or an airline will accept a particular standby booking.

Flight Documents for Different Indonesia Visa Types

The required flight information depends on the immigration permission you are applying for.

B1 Visa on Arrival and eVOA

For B1 VOA/eVOA, a return or onward ticket is an official requirement.

Indonesian Immigration lists a return or onward ticket among the documents required for pre-arrival eVOA applications and VOA entry procedures.

Travelers should be prepared to present evidence of their departure plans when requested.

B1 generally permits an initial 30-day stay and can be extended once for another 30 days.

If you are planning to stay beyond the initial 30 days using an extension, discuss the intended itinerary with your visa agent before submitting flight documents. Eligibility for an extension does not by itself guarantee that a particular outbound booking will satisfy every entry check.

For a new application, review the Indonesia eVOA (B1) requirements and application service to check the documents and visa conditions before submitting your itinerary.

C1 Single Entry Tourist Visa

For a C1 Tourist Visa, the standard C1 electronic application checklist published by Immigration includes documents such as a valid passport, photograph, financial evidence, and guarantor documents where applicable.

That checklist does not universally identify a flight booking as a mandatory upload for every ordinary-passport C1 applicant.

However, return or onward travel evidence may still be required under applicable entry rules or for particular circumstances, including certain non-standard travel document holders.

If Visa BaliEasy requests flight documents for your application, provide the available itinerary or ask our team which details are needed for your specific case.

For a new application, review the C1 Tourist Visa requirements and application service to check the documents and visa conditions before submitting your itinerary.

D1 Multiple Entry Tourist Visa

A D1 visa allows eligible travelers to visit Indonesia multiple times during the visa’s validity period.

Flight arrangements may change between visits, so a single itinerary submitted for the original application does not establish the details of every future trip.

If you are traveling with a D1, be prepared to show the travel arrangements relevant to your actual entry.

For travelers planning repeated visits or unusual flight arrangements, confirm the appropriate documents before departure.

For a new application, review the D1 Multiple Entry Tourist Visa requirements and application service to check the documents and visa conditions before submitting your itinerary.

Changing Your Flight After Submitting a Visa Application

Travel plans sometimes change after a visa application has been submitted.

For example, you may change airlines, reschedule your arrival, or book a new outbound destination.

A flight change does not necessarily mean you must apply for a completely new visa.

However, you should check whether the revised itinerary affects your application, visa validity, or eligibility.

If your application is still being processed, contact the person managing it and provide the updated travel information.

If your visa has already been issued, check that your new arrival date remains within its entry-validity period and that your planned activities and stay remain consistent with the visa conditions.

Keep a copy of your updated itinerary when traveling. Follow our visa validity check guide if you need to distinguish the entry-validity deadline from your permitted stay after arrival.

A Real Customer Inquiry Received by Visa BaliEasy

Visa BaliEasy received an application in which the customer had not yet provided the required outbound flight document.

The team requested the missing travel information.

After the customer sent the outbound ticket, staff acknowledged receiving the document.

The available email record confirms the document submission and acknowledgement, but does not establish the final visa approval.

In a separate inquiry, a prospective C1 visa applicant asked whether an airline staff travel reservation could be used as proof of travel.

The response covered general flight document information but did not conclusively establish whether that particular non-revenue booking was acceptable.

These cases illustrate two different problems.

The first involves an incomplete set of travel documents. The second requires evaluating whether a special booking arrangement satisfies the relevant requirements.

For customers using standby or staff travel benefits, the next step should be a document-specific assessment rather than a generic instruction to upload any flight confirmation.

Preparing Flight Documents for Visa BaliEasy

If your Visa BaliEasy application requests inbound or outbound flight documents, follow the upload instructions provided for that application.

For application forms requiring flight booking uploads in PDF format, submit the relevant itinerary as a PDF rather than a screenshot or unsupported image format.

Before submitting:

  1. Confirm which traveler the document belongs to.
  2. Check the name and passport details for consistency.
  3. Make sure the relevant flight segments are visible.
  4. Include the arrival and departure information requested.
  5. Confirm whether the itinerary is ticketed, confirmed, or standby.
  6. Notify our team if you do not yet have the required booking.

If you are entering Indonesia by sea or another permitted route, explain your actual mode of arrival rather than submitting a flight booking that does not represent your journey.

The appropriate supporting travel evidence should be confirmed for your application. Before departure, review the All Indonesia Arrival Card checklist so you also prepare the separate arrival declaration and travel details required for your journey.
