Yes, you can move to a different residential address in Bali or elsewhere in Indonesia while holding an Investor KITAS (Investor ITAS). However, you must report your residential address change to Indonesian Immigration through a process called Mutasi Alamat. This requirement applies even if you move within the same immigration office jurisdiction.
Under Article 71 of Indonesia’s Immigration Law No. 6 of 2011, foreign nationals are required to report changes to their residential address. For company-sponsored Investor KITAS holders, the sponsoring company also has responsibilities to report changes involving the foreign national it sponsors.
You generally do not need to apply for a new Investor KITAS simply because you move house. However, the address update must be completed through the appropriate immigration procedure.
When Do Investor KITAS Holders Need to Update Their Address?
If you change your primary residential address, you should arrange a Mutasi Alamat to update your immigration records.
Common situations include:
- Moving from one villa to another in Bali
- Relocating from Canggu to Ubud or another area
- Moving from Bali to Jakarta or another province
- Changing your permanent residential address after your Investor KITAS was issued
- Moving into a newly purchased or rented property
A temporary hotel stay or holiday in another city is not necessarily considered a permanent residential address change.
However, if your main place of residence changes, you should report it rather than wait until your next KITAS extension.
Required Documents for Investor KITAS Address Change
According to the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, the general documents for Mutasi Alamat include:
- Application letter from the sponsor — A formal request to update the foreign national’s residential address.
- Sponsor’s identification (KTP) — The identification document of the relevant sponsor or authorized representative.
- Passport biodata page — A clear copy of the Investor KITAS holder’s passport.
- Latest stay permit information — A copy of the most recent stay permit details.
- Valid ITAS/KITAS — The applicant’s current Limited Stay Permit.
- eVisa document — The visa document associated with the applicant’s immigration status.
- Certificate of domicile (Surat Keterangan Domisili) — Issued at least at the Banjar or Kelurahan level, as required by the relevant immigration office.
Additional company documents, such as company authorization, supporting PT PMA documents, or other investment-related records, may be requested depending on the sponsorship arrangement and immigration office.
If your new address falls under a different immigration office, separate application letters may be required for the original immigration office and the destination immigration office.
All uploaded documents should be clear color scans of the original documents.
If you also need to update your civil-registration records, read our SKTT and domicile-document guide to understand the difference between an SKTT and a local domicile letter, and check which records need to reflect your new address.
Step-by-Step Investor KITAS Address Change Process
1. Confirm Your New Residential Address
Prepare your complete new address, including street name, property number, village, district, regency or city, province, and postal code.
Check which immigration office has jurisdiction over your new residence. This determines whether your application involves an address update within the same immigration office or a transfer between immigration offices.
Before preparing the application, check how your address determines the responsible immigration office in Bali so you can confirm whether both residences fall within the same service area.
2. Inform Your Sponsoring Company
If your Investor KITAS is sponsored by a PT PMA or another eligible company, inform the company or its authorized representative about your address change.
Your sponsor will generally need to prepare the application letter and provide the relevant supporting documents.
If your company is preparing the supporting paperwork, review our guide to Indonesian visa sponsorship letters for the usual sponsor and applicant details, then follow the specific letter requirements given for your address-change application.
Changing your residential address does not automatically mean you are changing your sponsoring company. These are different immigration procedures.
3. Prepare the Supporting Documents
Collect your passport, current ITAS, eVisa, sponsor information, and certificate of domicile.
Make sure the new address is consistent across the application and supporting documents.
Incomplete or inconsistent information may delay immigration verification.
4. Submit the Mutasi Alamat Application
According to the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, the application process involves:
- Accessing the sponsor account at evisa.imigrasi.go.id
- Submitting the address change application through the appropriate account
- Uploading the required documents
- Entering the new residential address
- Completing immigration verification
If the application status shows “Pending” or “Reject,” the applicant or sponsor can check the registration number for the reason and follow the instructions provided.
5. Receive Confirmation of the Address Update
Once the application is verified and approved, immigration processes the address change in its records.
Keep the confirmation or updated immigration document for future reference, especially when extending your Investor KITAS or completing other immigration procedures.
Moving Within the Same Immigration Office vs. Moving to Another Jurisdiction
There are two common scenarios when changing your residential address.
Moving Within the Same Immigration Office Jurisdiction
If both your previous and new residences fall under the same immigration office, the address change can generally be handled as a local Mutasi Alamat.
You still need to report the change and provide the required documents, but transferring your immigration records to another office is usually unnecessary.
Moving to a Different Immigration Office Jurisdiction
If your new residence is under another immigration office, the process may involve Mutasi Keluar (transfer out) and Mutasi Masuk (transfer in).
For example, if you move permanently from Bali to Jakarta, the immigration office responsible for your new residence will be different.
The process may require coordination between the original immigration office and the destination immigration office, including the transfer of immigration records and additional supporting documents.
Confirm the relevant immigration office before submitting your application, particularly if you are moving between cities or provinces.
Once the responsible office has been confirmed, use our Bali immigration office directory to plan your visit and reconfirm its current location and service hours before travelling.
Does Changing Your Address Affect Your Investor KITAS?
Changing your residential address does not automatically cancel your Investor KITAS or require you to apply for a new visa.
Your existing KITAS can generally remain valid as long as you continue meeting its conditions, including maintaining your qualifying investment and complying with immigration requirements.
However, a residential address change is different from changing your sponsoring company, investment structure, or permitted activities.
If you are also changing your PT PMA, business position, or sponsorship arrangement, additional immigration procedures may be required.
Processing Time and Fees
Processing time depends on whether the application is a local address change or requires coordination between immigration offices.
Some Indonesian immigration offices publish a processing estimate of approximately three working days after the required documents are complete. However, this should not be treated as a guaranteed nationwide processing time.
Certain immigration offices also list the government service for Mutasi Alamat as free of charge. Additional agency handling fees, document preparation costs, or other administrative expenses may still apply.
For example, Batam Immigration’s published address-mutation guidance lists a three-working-day process and no government charge. Confirm the current requirements and timing with the office handling your case; this is not a nationwide service guarantee.
Why Reporting Your Address Change Matters
Keeping your immigration address accurate is part of maintaining your legal stay in Indonesia.
Failure to report changes when required may lead to problems during immigration inspections, stay permit extensions, or other administrative procedures.
Article 71 of Indonesia’s Immigration Law requires foreign nationals to report changes of address. Under Article 63, sponsors are also responsible for reporting changes involving foreign nationals under their sponsorship.
You should therefore arrange the address update promptly rather than leave your immigration records showing an outdated residence.
